Dumb Question, Maybe

I have a dumb question, maybe I didn't pay enough attention during the show (I was so in awe at everything, I forgot to pay attention to the plot sometimes), but... what happened to the other special kids? There were quite a few...? I mean Hargreaves got "only" seven of them...? So... where's the rest? Are they special, too? What happened to them?

Did I miss the explanation? *hides*

It’s not a dumb question at all! In fact, it’s one I’m sure a lot of people have after watching the show. (I’ve seen a few people ask one of the Umbrella Academy fan tumblrs at least so you are certainly not alone.)

In total there were 43 kids born that day and Hargreeves only got 7 which leaves 36 unaccounted for. After the opening of the first episode the others are never mentioned again.

So the answer is that we don’t know anything about them, where they are or if they have powers. (Though I assume that they would have.) Perhaps some of the others will show up in season 2.

The first two arcs of the comic don’t give us any answers there either. (It’s possible that a character introduced in the last issue is one of the other kids, though I’m not sure.) So the question of where the others are is something people have always wondered about.

Nope, you didn't miss it! I suspect this will be a plot point in season two, although it is kind of funny that none of the others (who presumably also have powers) came forward at the height of the Umbrella Academy fame when they were kids/teens

Yeah that's exactly what confused me - the Umbrella Academy kids were quite famous and being famous usually brings in others who also want to be famous.

Oh, totally! It would make complete sense if a bunch of dangerously undertrained copycat teams sprang up after the kids started getting famous, but that doesn't seem to have been what happened, and I'm pretty sure I trust the story for there to be an over-arching, in-universe reason for it, but it's kind of weird that it hasn't come up yet, even in passing. SIX SEASONS AND A MOVIE, NETFLIX, there are MYSTERIES to address!!

Given the show's plot twist habits, I'm sure we'll get an answer which will turn out to be not an answer after all but yet another question... lol!

I feel like it's kind of implied that the others died before Hargreeves got to them.
